  • Call for Proposals for Applied Research

    Applied Research Projects, conducted under Priority 1 of the ESPON Programme, are thematically defined by the demand of policy makers. Projects shall support policy development by creating European wide, comparable information and evidence on territorial  dynamics, potentials and challenges focusing on development opportunities for regions and cities.

    The Call for Proposals includes the following 11 themes of Applied Research:
    • Attractiveness of European regions and cities for residents and visitors
    • European patterns of land use
    • Territorial cooperation in transnational areas and across internal/external borders
    • Transport accessibility at regional/local scale and patterns in Europe
    • Secondary growth poles in territorial development
    • European perspective on specific types of territories
    • Territorial dimension of the innovation and knowledge economy
    • Continental territorial structures and flows (globalisation)
    • Indicators and perspectives for services of general interest in territorial cohesion and development
    • European seas in territorial development
    • Territorial and regional sensitivity of EU Directives
    The total available budget for this call amounts to 8.700.000 € which are distributed on projects as indicated in the table below. One single proposal will be selected for each of the 11 themes indicated.

    (1) Budget corrigendum
    Although the Application Pack - Priority 1 - Project Specifications includes the correct amount of 800.000 EUR for the applied research theme "Territorial Dimension of Innovation and Knowledge Economy", an editorial mistake related to the budget occurred mentioning the amount of 750.000 EUR. Following a Written Procedures ending on 6 November 2009, the Monitoring Committee confirmed that a budget allocation of 800.000 EUR is decided for the project under Priority 1 on “Territorial Dimension of Innovation and Knowledge Economy”. Therefore, the total available budget for this call amounts to 8.700.000 EUR.

    Potential beneficiaries of this call are public and private bodies. Please consult the specific requirements for private applicants made available in the Application Pack - Priority 1.

    The deadline for submitting proposals for this call is 11 November 2009.
