ESPON seminar in Evora
12-13 November 2007
The first seminar under the ESPON 2013 Programme took place in Evora, Portugal, on 12-13 November 2007.
The new ESPON Programme was approved on 7 November 2007 by the European Commission and the implementation of the actions envisaged has started.
The seminar aimed at providing proactive discussions on the needs, demand and possibilities for improving the knowledge on territorial structures, trends, perspectives and policy impacts affecting the European territory.
The seminar had in 3 sessions focused on key new results and included detailed discussions during a mix of plenary session and workshops. The focus of each session was to reflect on the demands for Auropean territorial evidence to be developped within the ESPON 2013 Programme.
The first session dealt with spatial scenarios for Europe. The integrated spatial trend scenarios as well the contrasting scenarios for Europe developed by ESPON were addressed during workshops focusing on thematic drivers and main challenges for different types of territories.
The second session was dealing with territorial dimension of Europe in the World. The newest findings on the global context of the European territory was debated in workshops discussing different geopolitical visions and their consequences for European territorial development and cohesion.
The third session presented progress on a tool for territorial impact assessment of EU policies, highly demanded by policy makers, as well as on the ESPON Hyperatlas.
In the concluding session policy makers, practitioners and scientists shared their views on demands for information, evidence and knowledge that the ESPON 2013 Programme should consider.
