"Revealing territorial potentials and shaping new policies - Contribution to the post-2020 Cohesion policy debate"

Valletta, 24-25 May 2017 – In cooperation with the Maltese EU Presidency, the ESPON EGTC is organizing a seminar to contribute to the debate on the performance and future of EU Cohesion policy and to address territories with geographic specificities.

The Seminar is specifically addressed to policy-makers and programme authorities:

• engaged in the design and/ or implementation of Cohesion policy, including its territorial cooperation objective;
• developing and implementing policies in support of territories with geographic specificities;
• engaged and/or interested in existing good practices and new territorial governance solutions to promote functional geographies and territorial cooperation.

Regional Strategies – ESPON ReSSI Inception Delivery

Coventry City Council, Southern Denmark Region, Piedmont Region, Oeiras City Council, the four stakeholders of the targeted analysis ReSSI, address crucial questions to the research team in order to investigate how the Europe 2020 objectives can be promoted by local authorities, in the context of evolving landscapes of territorial governance and planning.

In their Inception Delivery, the Universities of Coventry, Copenhagen, Politecnico di Torino and Lisbon, have elaborated the conceptual and methodological framework and the general research context of the targeted analysis.

The delivery provides a first overview of the most prevalent governance systems in Europe and offers an outline of the opportunities and challenges for cities and regions following changes in governance in the aftermath of the financial crisis.

URBACT has launched a Good Practice call for all European cities, no matter their size or geographical area, with the aim to promote, reward and transfer the great work they are doing in the field of integrated urban development. Master Class on EU Cohesion Policy

Brussels, 8-12 October 2017 - The European Commission DG Regio, the Committee of the Regions and the Regional Studies Association in cooperation with the European Regional Science Association and the Association of European Schools of Planning, organise the 5th Master Class on EU Cohesion Policy which will be held in Brussels for PhD students and early career researchers during the European Week of Regions and Cities.

The Master Class is a unique format to connect young researchers and will include presentations of papers by the participants as well as lectures and panel debates with policy makers, EU officials and senior academics to improve understanding of and research on EU Cohesion Policy.
