ESPON 2013 Programme
Newsletter No 3/2008
Welcome to the third electronic ESPON 2013 Newsletter. It offers information on the latest developments of ESPON.
MESSAGE FROM ESPON Coordination Unit
“The ESPON 2013 Programme is on track towards new results nourishing policy development with facts and insights on European territorial dynamics. Several parallel processes are currently in motion.
The first 5 applied research projects have been started as well as a major project ensuring development and continuity of the ESPON database. A very stimulating process with selected stakeholders have specified the first 8 projects on using ESPON results in practice, the new project type called Targeted Analysis.
Experts can currently apply for carrying through these analyses in addition to an applied research project on territorial effects of climate change and an explorative project on territorial indicators and indices.
A process defining the themes for the next applied research projects are underway. A very stimulating input has been the results of the online stakeholder consultation during June-July where 490 colleagues responded to the questions raised. The themes are planned published as part of a pre-announcement of the third call for proposals envisaged just before X-mas 2008.
The first results from the update of key maps from the ESPON 2006 Programme showing territorial trends related to demography, migration and accessibility will be presented at the Open Days – ESPON Workshop on 8 October 2008.
Finally, the ESPON report on Europe in the World has caught a lot of attention outside Europe, in Asia and South-American countries, which gives a clear sign of the global context becoming increasingly important, also when it comes to territorial structures and flows as factors of competitiveness.”
