• Typology Compilation

    Theme

Compilation of regional typologies for the territories having particular attention by policy makers: urban / metropolitan regions; rural regions; sparsely populated regions; regions in industrial transition; cross-border regions; mountainous regions; islands and coastal regions.

    Main focus

Taking into consideration the policy development in relation to EU Cohesion Policy (the Green Paper on Territorial Cohesion), the Treaty of Lisbon and the description of the new European aim of territorial cohesion, this project is expected to present a compilation of regional typologies for territories receiving particular attention by policy makers. The typologies selected are reflecting the types of territories mentioned in § 158 of the Lisbon Treaty, currently in the process of ratification: urban / metropolitan regions; rural regions; sparsely populated regions; regions in industrial transition; cross-border regions; mountainous regions; islands and coastal regions.

News on the Final Report - The service provider presented the Final Report on Typology Compilation for the Monitoring Committee meeting in February 2010. Based on the Quick Scan approach, various examples on how the results can be used to cross-analyse other ESPON results and indicators were discussed as well as the typologies behind. The Monitoring Committee decided that the Coordination Unit should test the Typology Compilation and that the results of this test should be discussed at the next meeting before further action.
