Key Messages
1) Accessibility by rail improves outside the Pentagon, mainly westwards. Relative gainers here are regions in Greece, Ireland, Italy, Portugal, Spain and Nordic countries.
2) In contrast to the improved road accessibility in Eastern European regions, rail accessibility is decreasing in these regions.
3) Regions in Eastern Europe with low accessibility and which continue to lose accessibility in relative terms give rise to particular challenges.
