Planning for a Metropolitan Future

Invitation to the final conference of the ESPON Targeted Analysis ‘SPIMA’

The conference will be held at:

Norway House, Rue Archimède 17, Brussels

09:30-16:00, 6th February 2018

The SPIMA project was commissioned by stakeholders from 10 EUROCITIES members. This work presents ground-breaking documentation and analysis of how 10 cities and their surrounding municipalities and regions have been carrying out strategic planning. The research gives new insight into the processes and potential of spatial planning and changes our understanding of functional urban areas.

The conference is aimed at policy-makers from cities as well as from national and European bodies. It is designed to present key findings and policy messages of the SPIMA project and related research, emphasizing the value of this evidence for guiding future policy-making.

The SPIMA stakeholders seek to share and discuss the wider benefits of supporting and enabling spatial planning in functional urban areas. Successful planning and management of spatial development within metropolitan areas is an essential element for achieving policy goals across Europe. Being confident that local stakeholders and policy makers from all over Europe will feel inspired for the years ahead, the SPIMA stakeholders look forward to reflections and discussions of relevant policy approaches.

The conference language is English and participation is free of charge.
