What are the ESPON thematic priorities

A limited number of themes, selected to reflect on key challenges for EU policies and the EU member and partner states.

How do we implement these priorities

By bundling different types of activities by means of Thematic Action Plans (TAPs).

How do TAPs work

As a living narrative that evolves in time, is fed with the evidence produced in research projects and transferred into useable policy knowledge.

Focus of the TAPs

On the specific theme, set in a strategic context and framed to demonstrate the added value of ESPON.

How many TAPs

Up to 10 – 4 already launched and 4 in the pipeline.

Geographical coverage

All territorial levels in the entire ESPON programme area. It could also include EU neighbouring countries.

Timeframe

Once open, running until the end of the programme period.
