------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The year 2020 marks a crossroad for the EU as well as for ESPON- the start of the final phase of the current programming period 2014-20 and at the same time, this year is the most crucial for the preparation of the future programming period 2021-27.

On that backdrop the Managing Authority of the ESPON 2020 Programme is organizing a high-level event in Brussels with the participation of the EU Commissioner for Cohesion and Reform, Ms Elisa Ferreira and the Luxembourgish Minister for Energy and Spatial Planning, Mr Claude Turmes, the Chair of the REGI Committee of the EP Younous Omarjee and the EU Presidency of Croatia in cooperation with the Committee of the Regions and many stakeholders and researchers of the ESPON 2020 Programme.

The aim of the event is to share knowledge about the achievements of the current ESPON 2020 Programme and raise awareness about ESPON towards new actors at EU level. At the same time, the event serves as an opportunity to open the debate on the future of the ESPON Programme with the relevant stakeholders, who have still the opportunity though to participate in the activities of the current programming period.

The target groups of the event: The event addresses the newly appointed EU level officials and other relevant organisations having representation offices in Brussels, authorities implementing ESIF programmes and organisations promoting different regional/urban interests at EU level as well as national, regional and local stakeholders engaged in policy-making on territorial development. The conference also addresses universities and research institutes as key actors for the development of the knowledge base at the core of the ESPON Programme.

Due to the capacity of the venue, a maximum number of 120 participants is envisaged.

NB! The day before, on 17th of March, INTERACT is organising in Leuven a very interesting event under the title "Bringing Territoriality into Interreg" Check their website for more information and registration
