On 27 May, we had expected to welcome many of you to Zadar, where our ESPON seminar in cooperation with the Croatian Presidency of the Council of the European Union was to have taken place. But the new normal imposed by COVID-19 requires imagination and different ways of maintaining the social links that we value so much.

So, instead of the seminar in Zadar, the EGTC team is offering you the first edition of the ESPON Magazine. This first edition focuses on a Green Europe, a priority for the Croatian Presidency and for the European Commission. It is also one of the two pillars of the renewed Territorial Agenda. We dedicated a Thematic Dossier on Green Europe, where we present our two recently published Policy Briefs and analyses from stakeholders, policymakers and researchers.

We are very proud that this first edition hosts a special message from Vice-President of the European Commission and Commissioner for Democracy and Demography Dubravka Šuica.

We are also honoured to have messages and articles by:

Claude Turmes, Minister for Energy and Minister for Spatial Planning in Luxembourg;

Željko Uhlir, State secretary for Construction and Physical Planning in Croatia;

Maria Spyraki, Member of the European Parliament and co-chair of the Intergroup on Climate change;

Normunds Popens, Deputy director general of DG REGIO;

Lambert Van Nistelrooij, former member of the European Parliament and member of the REGI Committee;

Above all, we are very happy that we received contributions from MC members, experts, researchers and members of our ESPON staff.

We want TERRITORIALL to be open as much as possible to our community. and we hope that will appreciate the result. But as this issue is designed also to work as an alternative to our seminar, we will try to keep the spirit of our debate alive.

Therefore, you can use again sli.do (link) from your desktop or using the app in your mobile using #ESPONmag and ask questions, comment on any of our articles, post your contributions and remarks. The authors will come back to you in some days with their responses. You can also use #ESPONmag on social media and help us enlarge our community.
