The Launch Seminar of the ESPON2020 Cooperation Programme was organized in cooperation with the Latvian Presidency of the Council of the European Union and took place on 3-4 June 2015 in Jūrmala – Latvia.

The Ministry of Sustainable Development and Infrastructures of Luxembourg - Department for Spatial Planning and Development (DATER), which is the Managing Authority of the ESPON 2020 Cooperation Programme, officially launched the ESPON 2020 Programme.

All target groups and stakeholders of ESPON, policymakers, administrators, practitioners, representatives for all levels and sectors, universities and research organizations, who can benefit from and contribute to the ESPON Programme were invited to attend the event.

The European Commission, the Trio of EU Presidencies, the Committee of the Regions and other stakeholders were actively involved to the Launch Event with their policy insight and evidence expectations for new ESPON territorial evidence.

113 people, including policy makers, practitioners, scientists and experts were welcomed by the representatives of the Latvian EU Presidency, Jūrmala City Council, ESPON Monitoring Committee and Managing Authority.

Programme

The renewed ESPON 2020 was introduced and participants were informed on:

(1) how ESPON 2020 will be implemented, what is different to ESPON 2013;

(2) how stakeholders, researchers and experts will be involved;

(3) the type of actions and activities that ESPON 2020 will carry through;

(4) how to participate in the ESPON 2020 Programme and how to benefit from it.
