Two ESPON Workshops at the Open Days 2012

1) Joint Workshop "Policy, practice and evidence - delivering results in urban mobility through interregional cooperation"

The first workshop “Policy, practice and evidence - delivering results in urban mobility through interregional cooperation” which was organised in cooperation with European Commission - DG REGIO E1, INTERACT, INTERREG IVC and URBACT, took place on 9 October 2012 at 09:00-10:45.

This event showcased the direct benefits for sustainable mobility in the cities of tomorrow and how Green Growth is intricately linked with viable smart transport systems. With innovative new findings related to transport accessibility at regional/local scale and patterns across Europe, the ESPON project TRansport ACCessibility at regional/local scale and patterns in Europe (TRACC) demonstrated its contribution to the evidence base for policy-makers in making informed decisions. 

2) ESPON Workshop "Creating Results informed by Territorial Evidence"

The second workshop “Creating Results informed by Territorial Evidence” which was organised in cooperation with European Commission - DG REGIO,  took place on 10 October 2012 at 14:30-17:00.

ESPON showcased the evidence base available for countries, regions and cities, and for the programming related to EU cohesion policy 2014-2020.

The ESPON project ‘An EU 2020 Territorial Analysis (SIESTA)’ revealed the territorial dimension of the strategy and the diversity of opportunities and challenges regions and cities face in contributing to its success.

The ESPON workshop also explored the territorial dimension of two important themes: Knowledge & Innovation; and the Role of Secondary Growth Poles.

The ESPON project ‘Knowledge, Innovation, Territory’ (KIT) shared new knowledge on the diversity of development opportunities through innovation that European regions have. Practical advice on the role of secondary tier cities for regions of Europe and their potential to contribute to sustainable and balanced territorial development and cohesion was offered by the project ‘Secondary Growth Poles and Territorial Development in Europe’ (SGPTD) .
