Territorial Impact Assessment

When new policies are implemented, some regions are more affected than others.

To enable a better understanding of future impact of policies before decisions are made, ESPON has developed territorial impact assessment tools. One of the tools is guiding on the process and involvement of regional and local actors in assessment. Another tool is supporting practical assessments based on nine steps.

The steps in the territorial impact assessment focus on the conceptual model, branching, regional exposure and its intensity, the territorial impact on regions, a plausibility and quality check, mapping, adaptive capacity discussions and communication of the results.

This quick check tool enables territorial impact assessment from European to regional level and facilitates ex-ante assessments.

It supports high quality analysis involving stakeholders as well as productive discussions.
