ESPON 2006 Tools - ESPON HyperAtlas

Version - June 2007

The ESPON HyperAtlas is an application that allows Multiscalar Territorial Analysis, i.e. analysis and visualisation of a spatial phenomenon taking into account its relative situation and location. In practical terms, it gives the opportunity to derive several indicators on the basis of the ratio of two initial geographical indexes (target index) according to different spatial contexts or territorial contexts. This means that it maps the deviations of a certain region to the following three different levels:

• Global (e.g. EU 27 + Norway and Switzerland, EU27, EU 25, EU15, CEEC) or a specific value,
• Medium (NUTS 0, 1 and 2) and
• Local (contiguity and units less than 2, 4, 6 or 8 hours by car).

This ESPON tool was developed within the framework of ESPON 3.1 Project – Integrated Tools for European Spatial Development, coordinated by the Federal Office for Building and Regional Planning (BBR) in Bonn. HyperAtlas software is the property of the Hypercarte Research Project - LSR-IMAG laboratory (UMR 5526), ID-IMAG laboratory (UMR 5132), Géographie-cités laboratory (UMR 8504), and RIATE (UMS 2414) and their respective supervision research institutes: CNRS, INRIA, Université de Paris 1, Université de Paris 7, Institut National Polytechnique de Grenoble, and Université Joseph Fourier.

The ESPON Programme grants free access to the ESPON HyperAtlas Application upon agreement of the following terms and conditions of use.
