Are you interested in participative processes dealing with the development of inter-municipal, cross-border or transnational cooperation areas? Would you like to help stakeholders to think more territorially and discuss spatial development patterns and perspectives? Potentially even to collaboratively elaborate shared representations of their cooperation area?

Then the ESPON ACTAREA web app could be something for you!

This web app allows you to give workshop participants (or survey recipients) assignments, e.g. “Where are growth hotspots?” “Which transport axes need to be strengthened?” “Where are potential growth factors located?”. They then fulfil each assignment using a set of drawing tools selected by the workshop facilitator and drawing on a canvas with predefined features (e.g. external borders of the cooperation area, main urban nodes, key infrastructure, links to surrounding areas). In this way, they elaborate schematic representations that are more easily comparable than on flipcharts.

The ACTAREA web app has been specifically designed to work on territories and spatial patterns and it can be used both in face-to-face and virtual workshops. Participants can produce their inputs individually or in groups. and contributions can be exported in pdf format.

The ACTAREA web app has also been designed to be used in multilingual cooperation areas. Processes can be set up to allow each participant to receive assignments and produce inputs in her or his preferred language. New interface languages can be added on demand – you just need to get in touch with ESPON EGTC.

The web app is open source. This means that its code can be accessed and reused by anyone, as long as credit is given to ESPON and to the web app creators.
