European Policy Orientations on Territorial Development

Brussels, Committee of the Regions, 20 February 2017

The mission of ESPON 2020 is to consolidate the provision and policy use of comparable and reliable territorial evidence.

In order to ensure that ESPON is closely and continuously related to current and upcoming EU level policy processes, including Council rotating Presidencies, the Monitoring Committee at its meeting in December 2016 asked the ESPON EGTC to start a strategic debate on the work plan for 2018.

In the preparation of this debate, the ESPON EGTC, with the support of the Committee of the Regions, organizes a high-level workshop in Brussels on 20 February 2017 aimed at discussing ESPON strategic orientations for 2018.

The outcome of the event will be used as a basis for developing a proposal on main policy orientations framing the ESPON activities in 2018 that will be further discussed with the ESPON Monitoring Committee.

Participants

Representatives of European Parliament, European Commission Directorates-General, Committee of the Regions, European Investment Bank, Eurostat, Council of European Municipalities and Regions, Eurocities, EU Member and Partner States.

The workshop will bring together around 20 key EU, national and regional level policy-makers to take stock of the ESPON achievements and to discuss the current and upcoming policy processes that can be supported by relevant research and outreach activities.

Participants will have the opportunity to share views and observations on future demands and needs for updated information and evidence to support EU level policy processes and European territorial development at different geographical levels.

Venue
