1) European countries have energy trade deficits, with the exception of Norway.

2) Many European neighbour countries demonstrate a surplus in energy trade in 2011, while the Western Balkans, Morocco, Tunisia, the Near East except Syria, Moldova, Ukraine, Turkey and Belarus are confronted with energy trade deficits.

3) Today, the European neighbours producing energy or serving as transit countries are dependent on the European consumer markets.

4) A substantial rise of energy demand is expected in the southern neighbourhood in the coming decades.
