Key Messages
1) Population decline is a long term process that might affect the majority of EU territories. The phenomenon has already started in Eastern Europe, Eastern Germany, Italy, Northern and Spain.
2) By 2030, most of the European regions will be facing a challenging ageing process. The highest rates will be concentrated in Eastern and Southern Europe. However, Ireland, Luxembourg and some metropolitan regions (London, Paris and Stockholm) will resist this trend.
3) Population decline and ageing are strongly linked, also in territorial terms.
