Using ESPON evidence to support resilient and sustainable territorial development in Lithuania
December 17, 2025 · 10:00am CET
Online Event
This online event will present the main findings of two recently completed ESPON Targeted Analyses: “CHANEBO: Challenges at EU’s North-East External Borders” and “VREPO: Vulnerability, Resilience and Recovery Policies of the Physical Living Environment”. Both analyses were developed under one of the eight ESPON Thematic Action Plans: “Places Resilient to Crises.”
Lithuania, along with other EU countries, participated as a stakeholder, responding to ESPON’s call and highlighting the need for these studies. The analyses focus on vulnerability, resilience, and sustainable development across European regions.
In addition to the VREPO and CHANEBO findings, the event will provide a brief overview of other recent ESPON documents and interactive tools relevant to Lithuania. The ESPON programme itself will also be presented, highlighting its benefits for policymakers, municipalities, academia, and civil society. Participants will learn how the programme enables comparisons of territorial challenges and solutions across Europe, draws on good practices, and allows Lithuania to share its own experiences.
The event aims to show how insights from these studies can inform Lithuania’s territorial and regional planning, support cross-border cooperation, and strengthen resilience to current and future challenges. By the end of the event, participants are expected to have a clearer understanding of the ESPON programme, know where to access its documents and interactive tools, and be familiar with the application process for Targeted Analyses and other ESPON projects.
The event will be held in Lithuanian and English, with simultaneous translation, and will be live-streamed on the Ministry of Environment’s YouTube channel Aplinkos ministerija.
