DuCoop cvba is a cooperative established in 2014 in the newly developed De Nieuwe Dokken neighbourhood of Ghent, Belgium. This EC operates under the local practice of Community Distribution, where it acts as the sole supplier of district heating and wastewater services to the area via its community-owned network. DuCoop generates heat from residual heat and wastewater, promoting a circular and carbon-neutral approach. The cooperative's innovative structure ensures every resident is a member, creating a diverse membership base with low entry hurdles, and its main achievement is providing sustainable services at competitive prices, driven by political will and clear public procurement criteria.
