The EFIDUERO cooperative is the first European Energy Cooperative (SCEL) and an initiative of the European Grouping of Territorial Cooperation (EGTC) Duero-Douro, which covers municipalities along the Spanish-Portuguese border. As a Cross-border (quasi-) energy community, its unique model involves the EGTC owning PV plants and Efiduero acting as the energy provider to distribute power to municipalities, citizens, and SMEs in the region. Its main objective is to overcome the barriers of a remote, rural cross-border territory to achieve energy independence and secure electricity supply through robust cross-border governance and cooperation.
