Balenyà Sostenible is a non-profit Consumer and User Cooperative Society founded in the municipality of Balenyà, Barcelona, in 2021. This EC is a pioneering model that leverages the provision of municipal buildings to install photovoltaic (PV) panels for shared self-consumption. With around 170 members , its core activities include distributing affordable renewable energy, offering e-mobility services , and actively working to fight energy poverty through a unique agreement with the City Council and Mancomunitat la Plana to include vulnerable families as members. The cooperative's success is rooted in strong public-private cooperation and its focus on combining environmental sustainability with social responsibility and local economic development.
